Introduction: Wood Polygon Wall Light

Produce a unique wooden wall lamp.

Step 1: Pattern Lamp

starting from sketches I drew the basic shape i wanted to achieve.

Ill-use 2: 3D Design

I used Maya to 3D model the basic lamp embodiment.

Then I output that model and ran it through Pepakura Designer. This software is usually old for paper craft. But I used IT for the cut template for my boards.

After impression verboten my paper template at a much small scale I found this useful when comparing angles, and qualification sure things were coming unneurotic accurately.

Step 3: Measure Twice - Slice Once

At this point I had a really clear idea of what pieces I needed to assemble the lamp. I mow a canvass of nice underlay panel to width on the table saw.
Those pieces were then veer into triangles on a compound miter saw.

I fructify the angle of the cut to match the sides from pepakura.

Step 4: Assemble the Panels

Later dry fitting the boards to verify the miters were tight, I needed something to assistance support the weight of the boards as the glue juiceless. Play dough was a good stamp-able support.
I built the lamp in two halves so assembled the 2 sides. It was very exciting to see it seminal fluid unitedly at this point.

Step 5: Light It Up

After the glue had dried I unrolled a 6 meter undress of white LEDs. I purchased this set from amazon for $6. I unrolled the whole package and rough laid it around the inside of the lamp chassis. It went all the way around 5 times exactly.

So I peeled back the LED 3M resinous and started to trial them around the wrong of the wood. making sure the hoopla was easily accessible to the rampart.

Dance step 6: Diffuse Panel

I looked a a few opposite materials for the front of this light, just I truly liked the look and feel of this semi-transparent corrugated plastic sheet I picked upbound at our Home Depot. It was only $8 and I have a lot remaining over for another project. IT feels sort of like the material or s mail containers are successful of.

Egg laying the lamp shape on upside of the panel I derived the exact shape onto the plastic, and cut it with an exacto vane.

It burst in dead, a little snug with none "leaks"

I added a bead of high temporary calorific glue around the edge to keep information technology in place.

Step 7: Bent Information technology Up - Male plug It In

The frame is surprisingly bullocky, and holds it shape cured.

Adding a small screw to the wall I hung the lamp shape from the wall and plugged information technology in.

It real lit dormie our homeschool room nicely which was the goal. Information technology also offers a unique shape on the wall which is nice besides. Hope you enjoyed.

I think it would be sport to finally add an arduino to activate a different color LED strip to fly the States of a timer, or a reminder. If you have whatsoever comments or suggestions please let me know.
